The Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900) certification is designed for individuals who are new to artificial intelligence and Microsoft Azure. This certification assesses foundational knowledge of core AI concepts, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and conversational AI on Azure. It is an excellent starting point for students and professionals who want to build a career in artificial intelligence and data science.

By successfully passing the exam, you demonstrate that you are able to describe fundamental AI workloads and considerations, identify features of Azure AI services, and understand how to use Azure tools to build AI solutions in the cloud.

The Azure AI Fundamentals exam is designed to validate a candidate’s basic understanding of cloud concepts and core Azure services. It consists of 40–60 multiple‑choice questions (the exact number varies slightly from one test to another) and you have 85 minutes to complete it. All questions are scored, and you must achieve a passing score of 700 out of 1000.

The exam mixes several question formats to assess your knowledge. You can expect the classic single‑answer multiple‑choice items, multiple‑select questions where two or more options are correct, drag‑and‑drop questions that ask you to match services with their descriptions, and case‑study or scenario‑based questions that present a short business problem and require you to choose the best Azure solution. There are also occasional fill‑in‑the‑blank questions that test terminology.

There are no labs in the exam. Instead, you'll be quizzed on your grasp of core AI concepts (such as machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing) and Azure AI services (like Azure Machine Learning and Azure Cognitive Services). Make sure you focus your study on these topics and prepare with a practice exam.
