Details
Monitoring Azure Resources is the fifth and final skill area of the AZ-104 exam and covers the continuous oversight, alerting, and data protection strategies that ensure Azure workloads remain healthy, performant, and recoverable throughout their lifecycle.
The skill centers on Azure Monitor as the unified observability platform, which includes metrics for near real-time numerical data, logs for querying and analyzing telemetry with Kusto Query Language, and alerts that proactively notify administrators or trigger automated actions when conditions breach defined thresholds. Administrators must configure diagnostic settings to route platform logs and metrics to Log Analytics workspaces, provision Azure Monitor Agent for guest OS monitoring, and set up Azure Monitor Baseline Alerts for recommended alerting configurations. The skill also includes Azure Backup for protecting VMs, files, and databases through policy-driven backup schedules and Azure Site Recovery for disaster recovery.
For the AZ-104 certification exam, candidates must demonstrate hands-on ability to interpret metrics in Azure Monitor, configure log settings and alerts, implement backup and recovery using Azure Backup and Recovery Services vaults, and configure Azure Site Recovery for virtual machine replication.
