The AZ-104: Microsoft Azure Administrator certification is an associate-level credential designed to validate your skills in configuring, managing, securing, and administering cloud services in Microsoft Azure. This exam is ideal for students who already have foundational Azure knowledge and want to demonstrate their ability to implement and maintain cloud infrastructure in a professional capacity. The certification covers five core areas: Managing Azure Identities; Managing Azure Storage; Managing Azure Compute resources; Managing Azure Networking; and Monitoring Azure Resources.

The AZ-104 certification expires after one year and must be renewed. You can renew for free by passing an online renewal assessment during the six-month window before your certification expires. If your certification lapses, you must retake and pass the full AZ-104 exam to regain it.

The AZ-104 serves as a critical stepping stone toward more advanced Azure roles and certifications, such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.

About The Exam

The Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) exam consists of approximately 50 questions (the exact number varies slightly from one test to another) and you have 120 minutes to complete it. You must achieve a passing score of 700 out of 1000 points to pass.

The exam mixes several question formats to assess your knowledge. You can expect the classic single-answer multiple-choice items, multiple-select questions where two or more options are correct, and drag-and-drop questions. There are also occasional yes/no questions.

You will also get case-study or scenario-based questions that present business problems requiring you to choose the best solution. And you can expect hands-on lab questions where you must perform specific tasks in a live Azure environment.
